'Hoos Fall on the Road at Syracuse

The Virginia women’s basketball team fell to Syracuse 84-75 on Sunday at the Carrier Dome, snapping the Cavaliers two-game winning streak.

UVa led by 11 points midway through the first half, but a charge in the final minute of the period by the Orange had Syracuse up 37-33 at the break.

In the second half, the 'Hoos erased a 14-point deficit to briefly take a one-point lead with 9:26 remaining in the game, but the Orange finished strong to win their third game in a row.

Sarah Imovbioh led the Cavaliers in scoring and posted her eighth double-double of the season with 21 points and 13 rebounds. Kelsey Wolfe finished with 18 points, six rebounds and four assists, while Ataira Franklin added 19 points, six rebounds and four steals.

With the loss, the 'Hoos fall to 10-10 on the season and 3-4 in the ACC. Syracuse improves to 15-5 and 4-3 in their first season in the conference.

“They are a tough team, especially at home," said UVa head coach Joanne Boyle. "We didn’t handle our business here. We need to figure out who we want to be on the road and hopefully we will do that before Thursday.”

Next up, UVa has another road test at Wake Forest on Thursday, Jan. 30. The Cavaliers return home to host Clemson on Sunday, Feb. 2 at 2 p.m.
