'Hoos Hold Off Wake Forest for ACC Road Win

The Virginia women's basketball team is now back at .500 in the ACC, after holding off a late charge by Wake Forest on Thursday night.

The Cavaliers hit their free throws in the game's final 23 seconds to escape Winston-Salem with a 64-59 win. UVA improved to 11-20 with the win, and 4-4 in the ACC.

Kelsey Wolfe led UVa with 18 points, and was joined in double-figure scoring by Ataira Franklin, who finished with 12. Dearica Hamby, the ACC's leading scorer, led all players with 23 points, including a three-pointer with 30 seconds to play that cut the UVa lead to 58-57.

The Cavaliers closed the first half on a 15-5 run to take an 11-point lead into the locker room, then extended that lead to 17 points with 13 minutes to play. The lead was still 16 with less than 10 to play, before the Demon Deacons stormed back.

After Hamby's three-pointer cut the lead to one, UVa shot a perfect 6-for-6 at the free throw line, with Wolfe, Franklin, and Faith Randolph each hitting a pair.
