'Hoos Stifle Hampton to Complete 3-0 Homestand

Hampton forward Dionte Adams hit a jumper at the midway point of the first half of the Pirates' visit to Virginia Tuesday night to tie the game at 16-16.

The Pirates didn't score again for the next eight-and-a-half minutes, and managed just three more points the rest of the half.

UVa used 23 unanswered points to pull away in that first half -- and closed the half on a 24-3 run -- en route to a 69-40 win that completed a 3-0 homestand for the Cavaliers.

Joe Harris had a season-high 20 points to lead the Cavaliers, who improved to 5-1 win the win. Harris shot a perfect 7-of-7 from the field, including 4-of-4 from behind the three-point line.

Sophomore Justin Anderson added 12 points off the bench for UVa, while forwards Darion Atkins and Anthony Gill finished with seven apiece. The Cavaliers as a team shot 51.1 percent from the floor, and 66.7 percent on three-pointers.

Hampton's 40 points were a new season low for a UVa opponent this season, one fewer than James Madison's 41-point performance in the Cavaliers' opening night win. UVa is allowing just 48.6 points-per-game this season.
