'Hoos Continue Success in ACC With Win Over UNC

The Virginia men's basketball team continued their hot start to the conference season Monday night, topping North Carolina 76-61 at John Paul Jones Arena.

The Cavaliers took the lead with just over five minutes to play in the first half and did not trail again in the game. UVa closed out the half on a 12-2 run and opened up the second on a 10-4 run, extending the lead to 15 points.

Joe Harris and Malcolm Brodgon each finished with 16 points for the Cavaliers, while Justin Anderson added 13. Akil Mitchell had 11 rebounds to go along with 6 points. Freshman point guard London Perrantes set a new career-high with 9 assists and finished with 8 points on 3-for-5 shooting.

With the win, UVa improves to 14-5 overall and 5-1 in the ACC, their best start in conference play since the 1982-83 season. The Tar Heels are now 1-4 in the conference and 11-7 overall this season.

The Cavaliers conclude a three game homestand on Saturday, when they host Virginia Tech at 3 p.m.
