Kirby Strikes Out 18 in No-Hitter at Pittsburgh

Nathan Kirby turned in the pitching performance of his young career Friday, tossing a no-hitter with 18 strikeouts in No. 3 Virginia's 4-0 win over Pittsburgh.

Kirby's lone blemish was a walk in the fifth inning but otherwise dominated the Panthers' lineup in a game delayed five hours because of rain.

The sophomore threw 122 pitches (87 strikes) and fell one punchout short of the Virginia record of 19, set by Harry Thomas in 1974.

He was helped on offense by Brandon Downes, who had a pair of hits, including an RBI double in the third that made it 2-0.

The Cavaliers then added two more runs in the sixth on a two-run error by Pittsburgh.

The win moves the Cavaliers to 26-4 overall and 11-2 in the ACC.
