Ben Kohles was back on the golf course at Sedgefield Country Club in Greensboro on Tuesday afternoon, preparing for the biggest tournament of his career.
Kohles, a 2012 Virginia graduate, was given a sponsor's exemption to play in this week's Wyndham Championship. It will be his first career appearance on the PGA Tour.
Kohles was invited to play in the Wyndham Championship after making golf history by winning back-to-back tournaments on the Web.com Tour earlier this summer to start his pro career.
"It definitely gives you a lot of confidence," he told reporters on Tuesday. "I'm still playing well, so I'm ready to get it going and can't wait to get it started."
Kohles' PGA Tour appearances could soon become weekly events. The top 25 golfers on the Web.com money list at the end of the regular season qualify for PGA Tour cards. Despite only playing in three Web.com events, Kohles is currently second on the tour's money list, having earned $262,875.
This week, Kohles will compete in a field that includes former major winners like Charl Schwartzel, Trevor Immelman, and Webb Simpson, who won last year's Wyndham Championship.
"Obviously the margin of talent is very small between each tour. But obviously there's a difference, and that's why they're out here," Kohles said. "But obviously I was able to win twice out there, so I'm looking forward to this opportunity, and hopefully can make the most of it."
