ALLEN PARK, Mich. (AP) - The Detroit Lions have added much-needed depth at wide receiver.
Kevin Olgetree signed a one-year contract with the Lions, a person familiar with the deal told The Associated Press. The person spoke Wednesday on condition of anonymity because the move had not been announced.
Ogletree was cut by Tampa Bay on Tuesday after signing with the Buccaneers as a free agent in March. He adds depth in Detroit, where the Lions are without their No. 2 receiver, Nate Burleson, indefinitely because he broke his left arm in a one-car accident.
Ogletree had eight receptions for 70 yards and a touchdown in four games with the Buccaneers this year. He set career highs with the Dallas Cowboys last season - his fourth in the NFL - with 32 receptions, 436 yards receiving and four TDs. The former Virginia standout earned a spot in the league as an undrafted rookie in Dallas in 2009 and he played four seasons for the Cowboys. He has 65 career receptions for 800 yards and five touchdowns.
The Lions started Kris Durham in Burleson's spot, opposite receiver Calvin Johnson, in Sunday's win over the Chicago Bears. They have also been without receiver Patrick Edwards because of a sprained right ankle. Second-year pro Ryan Broyles was active against the Bears, but didn't catch a pass.
Detroit (3-1) plays at Green Bay (1-2) on Sunday.
