On Sunday members of the Blue Ridge Bears ice hockey team participated in the "Mites on Ice" program at the Penguins-Capitals game. During an intermission, the kids got to live out their dreams by playing a game on the Verizon Center ice.
The star of the game was Walker Meistrell, who scored the game-winning goal.
"It was awesome, just completely awesome," says Meistrell.
While the kids enjoyed playing, they also enjoyed watching the game since the Capitals shut out the Penguins 3-0. When asked what the best part of the day was, Maksim Schroeder responded, "getting to see the Pittsburgh Penguins get whooped."
All in all, the trip to DC couldn't have gone much better for these kids. Getting to play hockey in front of over 18,000 people and watching a Capitals win made this an experience they'll never forget.
