It was a championship weekend at Albemarle High School when the top youth football teams from Virginia competed in the Blue Ridge Bowl. The Thomas Jefferson Youth Football League sponsored the event to declare state champions at the U-9, U-11, and U-14 levels.
Local teams competed in a two-day tournament that began at 9 a.m. Saturday and concluded Sunday night.
In the 9 & under category, the TJYFL Charlottesville team claimed the crown with a 52-0 win over the Greene County Dragons. For the 11 & under youth squad, Orange County Up-Tempo defeated the Timberwolves of Warrenton 25-18. And in the 14U age group, Loudoun County outlasted the Richmond Spiders 42-6.
The TJYFL primarily serves children who live in Albemarle, Charlottesville, Fluvanna, Greene, and Nelson counties.
