London: Changes Will Be Made After Loss to Pitt

Personnel changes are coming for the UVa football team, head coach Mike London said on his weekly teleconference Sunday night. The Cavaliers fell to Pitt 14-3 Saturday in their ACC opener.

London said he expects to make changes to the offensive line, and added that there could be changes made at the wide receiver spots as well.

"What I told everyone was that this has got to get fixed," London said after the loss Saturday. "It's not about a popularity contest, it's about finding those players that can be consistent and can give us a chance to win."

The Cavaliers' offense struggled throughout the loss, failing to reach the endzone and finishing with 188 yards of offense. Sophomore quarterback David Watford completed 15-of-37 passes, but London said there were 10 dropped passes by his receivers.

While the offense struggled Saturday, the UVa defense turned in a strong performance. The 'Hoos finished with seven sacks, two interceptions, and a fumble, and gave up just eight total rushing yards in the game.

"It's really good for our confidence," said sophomore defensive tackle David Dean. "We knew we were capable of that. We just went out there and played our hearts out."

"We did a good job with the run, obviously we gave up a few deep balls," added junior safety Anthony Harris. "We were able to create turnovers though, so that helped us. We've just got to look and improve and not give up the big play as much as far as passing game, and continue to be firm with the run game as well."
