An attentive crowd sat in the Charlottesville Catholic School gym and listened to former Notre Dame head coach Lou Holtz tell stories and give inspirational advice Sunday evening.

The college football Hall of Fame coach is in town to participate in the 10th annual Gene Corrigan Golf Tournament at Glenmore Country Club. The Tournament helps support CCS.

Holtz and Corrigan's relationship dates back to their time together at Notre Dame, where then-Athletic Director Corrigan hired Holtz in 1986.

The two have remained close since according to Holtz.

"All (Corrigan) had to do was tell me when and where," Holtz said in regards to participating in the tournament.

Corrigna, who now resides in the Charlottesville area, was also an Athletic Director at Virginia and Commissioner of the ACC.

The two former Golden Domers spoke about their reaction to the school joining the ACC.

"Good for the ACC because they'll sell season tickets when Notre Dame's on their schedule," Holtz said. "It will give them better bowl tieups because Notre Dame's part of it now and it will certainly help you in recruiting when you know you're going to play Notre Dame every three years. So it's a win-win for both sides."

"Really in so many ways it fits into the ACC and I know that they're thrilled to be able to do this and I am as well that's for sure," Corrigan added.
