Phil Mahone is the best in Charlottesville again.
The 2010 Reines Jewelers Charlottesville City Golf Champion repeated the feat again Sunday at Meadowcreek.
Mahone shot a 67 over 18 holes Sunday to finish at -11.
He beat out a tough field that featured many former champions and players at the top of their game.
"Yeah it's probably the best field I've won a tournament under," Mahone explained. "David (Passerell) has won two or three times and Bowen (Sargent) is a great player. So that was probably the deepest field we've had."
Sargent, the Virginia men's golf coach, fired a Sunday best 66 to finish three shots behind in second place.
Former champ Passerell and Ben Weaver had solid weekends as wel, finishing tied for third.
Brad Ferguson, who entered Sunday's final round atop the leaderboard, had a Sunday he'd like to forget, shooting a 75 to finish tied for fifth with Chad Jones and Jeff Toms, who also shot a 66 Sunday.
The golfers braved the extreme heat on Friday and Saturday and had to wait out two lengthy rain delays Sunday.
But Mahone quickly regained his focus on the back nine en route to another victory.
"You just have to hit one shot at a time. When I stood on the third tee and struck it right down the middle after the break it really calmed me down a little bit but it was tough."
