Malloy Guides Rebuilt Orange County into Season Opener

Orange County is ready to lift the lid on its 2013 season, the first under new head coach Keita Malloy.

Malloy comes to Orange after spending the last decade in the college ranks at Old Dominion.

He inherits a Hornets team that has gone 1-9 in consecutive seasons but rejoins the Jefferson District this year.

"A lot of people talk about how they're ready to see this Orange County football team, 'they're a new team' and we're ready to win some games," junior Kris Hooper said. "They're excited to watch us just as much as we're excited to play."

The Hornets will open up at home against a Liberty-Bealeton team that's made the playoffs each of the last five seasons.

"So it gives us a gauge of where we are coming out of the box," Malloy explained. "We'll know what we need to improve on, we'll know what we're good at and I'm looking forward to it. I think the kids are excited about it and they're looking forward to that challenge tomorrow."

And, the Hornets say, a win would be a tremendous step in their continuing development.

"My birthday was last week. So that'd be a tremendous birthday on top of birthday present," Malloy laughed. "I think it'd start a precedent for us. One thing I want to try to stress is taking care of your home field first and foremost. Doesn't matter who the opponent is, we've got to win at home."

"Yeah it'd be awesome because like Coach says, he talks about our legacy and we can start a legacy now and it will just prove to our fans and to ourselves honestly that we can go out there and we can win all the games if we go out and put our heart and effort into it like we do at practice," Hooper added.
