Mitchell Invited to Compete at Portsmouth Invitational

Virginia's Akil Mitchell is headed to Portsmouth later this week, with an opportunity to boost his stock for the upcoming NBA Draft.

The 6-8 forward is one of 64 players who will participate in this year's Portsmouth Invitational, a four-day showcase tournament for college seniors, in front of representatives from NBA teams.

Mitchell is one of eight players on the roster for Portsmouth Partnership. His teammates include Memphis guard Joe Jackson -- whose season ended with a loss to UVa in this year's NCAA Tournament -- and All-Big East forward James Bell. The team's coaching staff includes former NBA player Jerry Stackhouse.

Mitchell averaged 6.8 points and a team-high 7.0 rebounds for the Cavaliers this past season, and was named to the ACC All-Defensive Team by both the league's media and coaches.
