The No. 5 Virginia women's soccer team extended its unbeaten streak to 10 games as it posted a 1-0 win at Clemson on Sunday. Erica Hollenberg's goal in the 81st minute was all the Cavaliers needed as they posted their seventh shutout of the season.

Virginia improved to 9-1-1 overall and remained unbeaten in ACC play (2-0-1) with the victory.

"I felt like we controlled most of the game and it was our game to win or lose," said head coach Steve Swanson. "Clemson was very organized and made things difficult on us. I thought we were sharp in some areas, and other areas we weren't. We expected a tough game like this and anytime you can get a win on the road in the ACC, you are pleased."

Virginia controlled the possession in the first half and outshot Clemson 7-2 over the opening 45 minutes, but couldn't take advantage of those chances as the game was scoreless at intermission.

The Cavaliers continued to pressure the Tiger defense throughout the second half before finally breaking through in the 81st minute. Makenzy Doniak got to the end line and served a ball into the box. Hollenberg controlled the cross at the top of the 6-yard box and slotted home her first goal of the season.

"Makenzy just sent a great ball into the box," said Hollenberg. "My defender didn't realize I was behind her, so I cut in front, took a touch and finished it. We kept getting chance and after chance, so we knew it was just a matter of time before we would get a goal."

The Cavaliers outshot the Tigers 17-2 on the afternoon and had a 7-0 corner kick edge. Danielle DeLisle wasn't forced to make a save to post her second shutout of the season.

Virginia will conclude its two-game road trip on Thursday as it visits No. 17 Maryland. Game time at Ludwig Field in College Park is 7 p.m.
