The No. 8 Virginia women’s lacrosse team opened its 2013 season with a 10-9 victory at No. 6 Loyola.
Casey Bocklet, a transfer from Northwestern playing in her first game with the Cavaliers, scored three goals with an assist. Ashlee Warner scored two goals with two assists.
Dana Boyle had the game-winner with 5:29 left in the game.
“It was a pretty exciting first game for both programs,” said head coach Julie Myers. “I think both teams came out hungry and excited to start the season. There were lots of scrambling and hustle plays. It got pretty ugly at times, but I thought we made some big plays when we needed to. We created just enough opportunities to come away with the win.”
Virginia will be on the road at Richmond on Wednesday, Feb. 20 at 5 p.m.
