One day after former teammate Brandon Downes signed his first Major League contract with the Kansas City Royals, Branden Cogswell too signed on the dotted line with the Oakland Athletics.

Cogswell, Oakland's seventh-round selection and the No. 222 overall pick in last month's MLB Draft, reportedly signed a deal worth $200,000 according to Jim Callis of Baseball America.

Cogswell had a superb NCAA Tournament run for the Cavaliers, who made it all the way to the Championship Finals for the first time in program history before falling to Vanderbilt in the title game. The second baseman was named to the College World Series All-Tournament team.

He was also named All-ACC first-team second baseman after hitting .301 for Virginia on the year.
