The Virginia baseball program has lost another potential member of its 2014 pitching staff, with the apparent departure of rising sophomore Trey Oest.
"Had a great time playin ball at Virginia and made great friends but its best for me to continue playing ball back home," Oest posted on Twitter Monday afternoon, adding that his next destination is the University of Tampa.
Oest made a memorable debut in a Virginia uniform, pitching four perfect innings and taking a no-hitter into the sixth of a 9-1 win over Saint Peter's in the Cavaliers' home opener last February. Oest went 5-0 with a 4.28 ERA in 12 appearances this season, including seven mid-week starts.
Tampa just won the school's sixth all-time Division II national championship in baseball with an 8-2 win over Minnesota State in this month's title game.
