More Than 300 Attend Final London One-Day Camp

The final one-day Mike London Football Camp of the summer turned out to be the biggest yet.

Organizers estimated some 350 high school players came to Charlottesville to run through position-specific drills and get in some one-on-one competition as well.

But the story of the day wasn't so much who was on the field, but the players on the sidelines taking it all in.

Bayside High School five-star safety and 2014 Virginia verbal commit Quin Blanding was keeping a close eye on the happenings, checking for possible future Cavalier teammates.

Blanding and fellow five-star commit Andrew Brown have vaulted UVa into ESPN.com's top 20 classes of 2014 and are spearheading the movement to make Virginia destination for the country's elite players.

"Everything's going great," Blanding said of his recruiting efforts. "Just building this class and just trying to make a difference in Virginia and building a dynasty."

As it was for him, Blanding said the relationship with London is a strong selling point.

"Just listen to Coach London and see what he's for," Blanding said of his sales pitch to other recruits. "He's not going to tell you wrong."

One of the players Blanding was chatting with Sunday was 2015 four-star linebacker Ricky DeBerry of Richmond.

DeBerry has over 30 offers from top-level BCS teams, including the Cavaliers.

Blanding and a small group, including fellow Baysider and UVa freshman Taquan "Smoke" Mizzell, were in DeBerry's ear during the camp.

Blanding is hoping with his verbal and Brown's together, other high-caliber recruits will take a long look at Virginia.

"You wouldn't think of a five-star, number one safety in the nation go to Virginia because they think 'Oh Virginia hasn't really done anything big like other schools' but it's not even all about that," Blanding explained. "I feel like this is where I feel comfortable at, this is where the change is going to happen and this is where we're going to make a difference."
