David Passerell is no stranger to the Jefferson Cup, but the golfer who won his last Cup in 2012, was still surprised to come away with the win on Sunday.

"I just didn't believe it, to be honest with you," he said. "I knew I was about five back and I knew I shot 4-under, but I just still didn't think that might be good enough, so I wasn't good until everyone comes here and signs the club, all that kind of stuff."

Passerell entered the day five strokes behind the leader Bowen Sargent, the golf coach at Virginia. Sargent shot a 4-over 76 on Sunday to tie for third in the tournament. Passerell had a strong final round, shooting a 68 to take a one-stroke lead over Kevin Clarke.

One of the other trophies handed out on Sunday was the Battle Trophy, giving to the top amateur golfer for their performance throughout the year. For their third year in a row and the fourth time in five years, Philip Mahone took home the trophy.

"It's a big honor," he said. "David [Passerell] has won it five times, and he's arguably the best player that's been through here. To be someone that's close to him and win four is just a real honor."
