The volleyball season started with 29 consecutive wins at Albemarle High School -- but ended with back-to-back Patriot losses.
Stone Bridge swept the Patriots 3-0 in Tuesday's AAA state quarterfinals, ending Albemarle's season at 29-2. Albemarle's unbeaten start came to an end with Saturday's 3-2 loss to Patrick Henry in the Northwest Region championship.
Stone Bridge advanced by beating Albemarle 25-16, 25-16, 25-14 on Tuesday. With the win, the Bulldogs advanced to Thursday's state semifinals at the Siegel Center in Richmond.
The Patriots' season included the first 24-0 regular season in school history, and Commonwealth District regular season and tournament titles.
