VMI gave up over 500 yards of total offense in a 37-24 loss to Division II North Greenville Saturday at Foster Stadium. The Keydets fell to 1-2 with the loss.
Sophomore receiver Sam Patterson, a Monticello grad, led the Keydets with 77 yards on six catches, including his first collegiate touchdown.
With VMI trailing 37-17 late in the game, Keydets quarterback Eric Kordenbrock lofted a pass to the corner of the endzone. Patterson beat double coverage for the six-yard touchdown.
"He's a good player and he practices hard. We've got to keep getting him balls so he can make more plays," VMI coach Sparky Woods said after the game. "He gets better, he works hard. Good player."
The Keydets must now regroup and get ready to visit Scott Stadium next week for a matchup with the Cavaliers.
"We'll get up Sunday morning, come in here, grade the tape, start evaluating it and start working on the next opponent and start working on them," Wood said. "We'll see how we can give our players the best chance to win and show the same enthusiasm and interest as a coaching staff and we expect our leadership to do the same thing. The kids will play hard."
"We're going to work hard during the week, correct our mistakes, continue to get better each and everyday and wake up Saturday morning with the mindset that we're going up there to win and we're going to play our hearts out," sophomore Derrick Ziglar added.
