Post 74 Pulls Away for Win at Legion Regional

The American Legion baseball team from Albemarle Post 74 has advanced to the winner's bracket of the Southeast Regional Tournament.

Jack Maynard pitched into the ninth inning, and Post 74 got two hits and a pair of RBI from Austin Batten, on the way to a 6-3 win over the host team from Asheboro, North Carolina Thursday night.

With the win, Post 74 advances to face the team from Florence, South Carolina, which beat the team from Shelbyville, Kentucky 5-4 on Thursday.

Post 74 improved to 25-0 on the season with the win.

A two-run single from Batten in the top of the third inning erased a 1-0 deficit. Post 74 added another run in the sixth, then three more in the ninth to pull away for the win.

Maynard gave up 11 hits and three runs, and struck out five in 8 1/3 innings pitched to get the win. Batten got the game's final two outs to pick up the save.

Eli Sumpter had three hits for Post 74, while Kyle Vidano and Kyle Jarrell added two apiece. Post 74 finished with 11 hits as a team.
