Monticello athletic director Fitzgerald Barnes says he hopes to have a new football coach in place before the school's spring break in April.
On Wednesday, Barnes confirmed Tuesday night's report by Scrimmage Play that Redd was leaving Monticello for a position on Latrell Scott's staff at Virginia State.
Scott was hired as head coach at Virginia State on Monday. The former Virginia assistant and Richmond head coach spent last season as an assistant on Mickey Matthews' staff at James Madison.
Redd went a combined 19-6 in his two seasons as head coach of the Mustangs, including a pair of eight-win regular seasons, and three total playoff wins. Last year's team reached the Region II, Division 4 championship game, where Monticello lost 24-21 at home to Kettle Run.
