Former Virginia guard Taylor Barnette is transferring to Belmont, according to Jeff Borzello of CBSSports.com.
UVa announced earlier in July that the sophomore guard had asked for a release from the program. Barnette will have to sit out a year at Belmont, per NCAA transfer rules.
The 6-3 Barnette averaged 2.6 points and shot 43.2 percent (19-of-44) from 3-point range in 26 games during his freshman season in 2012-13. Barnette started two games for the Cavaliers. He scored a career-high 13 points in the Cavs' second-round NIT win over St. John's.
Barnette is the second UVa player to transfer this summer. Paul Jesperson also left this offseason and is now enrolled at Northern Iowa.
