UPDATE: Walcott Released by Browns Following Arrest

The Cleveland Browns have released former Virginia football player Ausar Walcott, following the rookie linebacker's arrest on a charge of attempted murder.

The Browns announced Walcott's release in a two-sentence statement Wednesday afternoon.

Walcott was arrested Tuesday and charged with attempted murder for allegedly punching a man outside a bar in Passaic, NJ, according to a report by NorthJersey.com. The report says Walcott was arrested Tuesday morning after he turned himself into police.

Walcott signed with the Browns as an undrafted rookie free agent on May 13. Walcott played in 45 games in four seasons at Virginia, with 128 career tackles and 1.5 sacks, plus a fumble recovery.

A UVa football spokesperson said Wednesday afternoon that the school would have no comment on Walcott's situation.

Walcott was suspended by Virginia coach Mike London for three months in 2011 after he and two teammates were charged by police in Harrisonburg after a fight near James Madison University. Walcott was reinstated by London after the charges against him were dropped.
