Ryan Zimmerman is getting his wish -- and now he's one of the highest-paid third basemen in the history of baseball.

The former Virginia shortstop has signed a new six-year contract extension worth $100 million with the Washington Nationals, a source told the Associated Press on Sunday morning. The deal also includes a complete no-trade clause.

Zimmerman already had two years and $26 million remaining on his previous five-year contract. With the new deal, Zimmerman is now guaranteed $126 million through 2019, plus a club option for 2020.

"All along, all I've wanted is to be able to stay with the Nationals, which I consider my hometown team, and help the franchise become a winner while also being compensated fairly," Zimmerman said in a statement released on Saturday. "I'm from Virginia, I was drafted by the Nationals and I've seen this organization make great progress since I signed here. I want to see it through to the ultimate goal of winning a World Series."

The Nationals took Zimmerman out of UVa with the fourth overall pick in the 2005 draft. He signed that same day, and by that September had joined the major league roster.

Zimmerman has hit .288 for his career, with 128 home runs and 298 RBI. His best season came in 2009, when he hit .298, with 33 homers and 106 RBI, was named a National League All-Star, and won a Gold Glove.

Limited to just 395 at-bats because of injuries last season, Zimmerman hit .289, with 12 homers and 49 RBI.
