The Cleveland Indians designated Mark Reynolds for assignment Thursday.
Reynolds, who signed a one-year, $6 million free agent contract with Cleveland in December, hit .215 with 15 homers and 48 RBIs. But the Virginia alum has struck out 123 times and he's only hit two homers since May.
Since the All-Star break, Reynolds is batting just .185 (5 of 27) with 10 strikeouts in 27 at-bats.
Reynolds started hot for the Indians, hitting 13 homers in the first two months. But his production has plummeted and the Indians have given up hope he could carry their offense the way he did in Baltimore last season, when in one nine-game stretch he hit nine homers with 17 RBIs.
