Rocco's NCAA Transfer Appeal Denied

After further review, former Virginia quarterback Michael Rocco will stil have to sit out the upcoming college football season.

The University of Richmond announced on Thursday that the school's appeal for a transfer exception for Rocco had been denied. Rocco had applied for a waiver to play immediately after transferring to Richmond in January.

The initial waiver request was denied by the NCAA last month.

“While we are disappointed with the NCAA’s decision, we are ready to move on,” Richmond coach Danny Rocco -- the quarterback's uncle -- said in school release on Thursday. “Michael will continue to practice and be an important contributor as we prepare for the 2013 season, while earning his degree from Richmond. We look forward to having him eligible to compete during the 2014 season.”

Rocco, a rising senior, went 11-9 in 21 games at Virginia the past two seasons. He completed 396-of-657 passes for 4,731 yards, with 27 touchdowns and 24 interceptions in his Virginia career.

NCAA rules say players must have at least two years of eligibility remaining to be able to play immediately when transferring to an FCS school. Rocco only has one season of eligibility left.
