The Virginia men's basketball team opened practice Friday and this edition of the cavaliers is the deepest yet under Tony Bennett.
The Wahoos return the top five leading scorers from a season ago, including Joe Harris and Akil Mitchell.
Sophomores Justin Anderson, Mike Tobey, Evan Nolte and Teven Jones all have a year of experience under their belts, Malcolm Brogdon and Darion Atkins return from injury and Anthony Gill will make his debut after sitting out a transfer season.
Add in talented freshmen Devon Hall and London Perrantes and the Cavaliers are widely expected to improve on last season's 23 wins.
"I don't think I've ever been a part of a team that's this deep," Gill said. "I don't even remember watching a team except maybe Kentucky, they were pretty deep whenever I was a freshman but I don't think I've seen a team this deep in a long time."
"Just at every position it seems we've got a guy who can come in and play right away, that's prepared to come in and play the way we play in our system," Mitchell added. "In my four years this is the deepest team I've been a part of."
The Cavs will begin putting that depth to the test November 8th when they host James Madison to begin the season.
