Second-Half Surge Pushes 'Hoos Past Irish

After being tied at halftime, the No. 14 Virginia men's basketball team used a 30-5 run in the second half to take down Notre Dame 70-49 in front of a sellout crowd at John Paul Jones Arena on Saturday.

Akil Mitchell and Anthony Gill led UVa with 15 points each, as the Cavaliers outscored the Irish 40-19 in the second half. Mitchell finished a perfect 7-for-7 from the floor, while Gill also had a strong shooting day, making 5 of his 6 field goals.

UVa has now won 11 games in a row, and the win marks the 'Hoos first ever 14-win season in ACC play. The Cavaliers are now 23-5 overall and 14-1 in the ACC. The Irish fall to 14-14 on the year, including a 5-10 mark in conference play.

The 'Hoos will continue a three-game homestand on Wednesday when they host Miami. Tipoff is set for 7 p.m.
