Shelby Rogers defeated Allie Kiick, 6-3, 7-5 in today’s finals of the 2013 Boyd Tinsley Women’s Clay Court Classic at the Boar's Head Sports Club.
Rogers, down 4-1 in the second set, stormed all the way back to 4-4 before Kiick took a 5-4 lead. Rogers closed late to take the set, match and title.
"Little nervous in the second but thankfully I toughed it out and kept it down to two sets today," Rogers said after the match.
She had little time to celebrate, as she was also in the doubles finals with Nicole Gibbs, where they faced Nicola Slater and CoCo Vandeweghe. Slater and Vandeweghe took the title with a 6-3, 7-6 (4) victory.
"Yeah it's great, I was here last year, didn't do so well but I knew it was a great event, I was real excited to come back," Rogers said of the event. "I mean the players love it, we feel really comfortable here and everybody makes us feel welcome."
