The Cavaliers haven't defeated the Demon Deacons in Winston-Salem since 2000.
Joe Harris hit a pair of 3's in the final minute of the game to get Virginia within a point but Jontel Evans turned the ball over on the game's final possession.
Freshman Mike Tobey led UVa with 14 points and Harris chipped in with 13.
Virginia is back in action Saturday at Clemson.
