While some of his teammates are spending their summer in the Cape Cod League, Virginia rising sophomore Nathan Kirby is also in New England, and doing quite well for himself.
Kirby is with the Keene Swamp Bats of the New England Collegiate Baseball League and was named Pitcher of the Week for games ending June 30th.
The lefty fired eight innings of shutout ball in two games combined with 12 strikeouts.
He got the win on June 24th at Sanford with six shutout innings where he fanned 10 and allowed six base runners. He retired all but one batter in a shutout, two inning relief stint at Vermont on June 29th.
Kirby appeared in 24 games for the Cavaliers as a freshman last season. He went 4-1 with a 6.06 ERA and 37 strikeouts in 32 innings of work.
