As a three-year starter and three-time All-Commonwealth District pick, Albemarle senior defender Abby Davison is used to always being on the field.

But this offseason she tore ligaments in her ankle -- forcing her to the sideline and giving her a new perspective.

"I don't know. As I was watching I realized how much...sometimes you take it for granted and I realized just how much I really enjoy playing soccer," Davison said.

"And so she had to lead from the sideline, which was really different for us and for her," Albemarle head coach Amy Sherrill added. "Being a part of this team for three years and playing every single minute, every single game and then to not have her there in that dominant defending from the beginning was different."

The senior captain is back to practicing with her teammates and expects to be back in the Patriots starting lineup soon.

"I'm really excited just to be back playing," she explained. "It's an honor to be back there and be a voice and be the main voice in the back and control things."

Davison's voice also carries weight inside the school. As President of the Female Athletes Striving Together group at Albemarle, she's responsible for organizing pep rallies and drumming up school spirit.

"What we do is basically bring together athletes and try to get them to other games and show support for all the athletes and games and other teams, especially ones that don't really get a lot of fans," Davison explained. "A lot of times, I know soccer we don't usually get that many fans, so it's awesome to have people come out and to do that for other people and bring Albemarle together as one is awesome."

"No matter the task Abby's going to get it done," Sherrill added. "That transcends to her schoolwork, extra-curriculars and on the field too."
