Swan, Stephens Added to U.S. Women's National Team

Virginia women's lacrosse rising seniors Courtney Swan and Morgan Stephens will swap their Cavalier orange and blue for America red, white and blue this summer.

The duo were added to the 38-player roster for the U.S. Women's National Team announced Wednesday.

Players were selected from an 81-player invite-only tryout pool and will train and compete in several exhibition events in the lead-up to the 2017 Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) Women's World Cup in Surrey, England. Ultimately, 18 players will represent the U.S., as the team goes for a third consecutive and eighth overall world title.

Swan, an IWLCA Second-Team All-American and a IWLCA First-Team All-Region and Second-Team All-ACC honoree who was also a nominee for the Tewaaraton Award, ranked 16th in the nation with 80 points this season (53 goals, 27 assists).

Stephens, an IWLCA Second Team All-American and Second Team All-ACC honoree this season, earned IWLCA All-South Region second-team honors in 2013 and was named to the first team this year. Stephens, who began the season as a midfielder, has been tasked with shutting down opponent's top scoring threats since moving to defense.
