The Ivory Coast proved no match for the team representing the United States in the FIBA U19 World Championship.
Team USA opened pool play on Thursday with an 88-29 win over the Ivory Coast. The US team led 34-10 after one quarter, and didn't allow the Ivory Coast to score in double digits in any other quarter.
Virginia sophomore Mike Tobey scored six points and grabbed six rebounds in 16 minutes off the bench for Team USA. Texas high school player Justise Winslow -- the youngest player on the US roster -- had 14 points and seven rebounds off the bench to lead the Americans.
All 12 players on the US roster played at least 11 minutes and scored at least two points. Team USA finished with four players in double figures, while no one from the Ivory Coast had more than nine points.
Pool D play continues Friday with Team USA playing the team from China, which escaped with a 61-59 win over Russia on Thursday. The Russian team missed a potential game-winning three-pointer as time expired in that game.
