Towns to Compete at College HR Derby

The field for this year's College Home Run Derby in Omaha will once again include a player from the Virginia baseball team.

On Wednesday, UVa rising junior infielder Kenny Towns was the first participant announced for this year's derby, set for July 3 at TD Ameritrade Park in Omaha.

Towns finished tied for second on the Cavaliers with seven homers in 2013. He hit a pair of grand slams in UVa's opening day 14-4 win at East Carolina, and his walk-off three-run homer in the 12th inning gave the Cavaliers a 7-4 win over Florida State at the ACC Tournament.

Outfielder Derek Fisher represented UVa at last year's College Home Run Derby, hitting four first-round homers but failing to advance to the semifinals. Fresno State outfielder Aaron Judge -- a first round pick by the Yankees in this year's draft -- was last year's winner.
