Turnovers Cost Cavs Again in Loss at Miami

It was a sloppy game for Virginia -- and it had nothing to do with the Miami rain.

The Cavaliers turned the ball over four times in a 48-26 loss to the Hurricanes at Sun Life Stadium in Miami.

The loss -- Virginia's eighth straight -- dropped the team to 2-9 overall and 0-7 in the ACC. It also ensured a winless season on the road, something the Cavs haven't done since Mike London's first season as head coach in 2010. The eight-game losing skid is the team's longest since 1975.

The game started the worst possible way for Virginia. Tracy Howard intercepted a David Watford screen pass and returned it 19 yards for a touchdown and the Wahoos trailed 7-0 after just one play from scrimmage.

After an Alec Vozenilek field goal made it 7-3, Stacey Coley scored on a 62-yard touchdown reception to put the Hurricanes on top, 14-3.

Virginia answered with a 24-yard Kevin Parks touchdown run and another Vozenilek field goal to cut it to 14-13 in the second quarter.

After Anthony Harris picked off his FBS-leading eighth interception, the Wahoos mounted a good-looking drive and looked to take the lead. But Watford's pass for Zach Swanson went off the tight end's hands and was picked off by Miami and returned to the UVa one-yard line.

Dallas Crawford punched it in from there and the 'Canes took a 21-13 lead into the half.

A Miami field goal and passing touchdown out of the half made it 31-13 before Taquan Mizzell scored his first touchdown as a Cavalier on a 10-yard pass from Watford to make it 31-20. Mizzell would also add a 7-yard scoring run later in the game.

Watford was 10-of-25 passing for 106 yards, one touchdown and three interceptions. He also ran for 46 yards.

Greyson Lambert came on in relief late and completed 13-of-19 for 134 yards.

Parks led the Wahoos on the ground with 130 yards and a score, and Mizzell totaled 78 yards and two scores.

Virginia will finish the season a week from today when it hosts rival Virginia Tech.
