Former Cavaliers Silverstein and Gragnani Sign with MLB Organizations

Two Cavaliers taken in the 2013 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft have signed with their organizations.

Reed Gragnani has signed with the Boston Red Sox, after being selected in the 21st-round (663rd overall). Gragnani will start out with the Lowell Spinners in Massachusetts, the team's Short-Season A affiliate.

Gragnani earned First-Team All-ACC honors in his senior season with UVa. The Richmond, Va. native hit .304 and finished with 49 RBI in his final season with the Cavaliers.

Scott Silverstein was selected in the 25th round (745th overall) by the Toronto Blue Jays. After signing with the organization, Silverstein will start his career with the Bluefield Blue Jays, the team's Rookie-Advanced Minor League Affiliate.

Silverstein was 10-2 in his redshirt senior season, finishing with a 3.15 ERA.

As of Monday, Virginia closer Kyle Crockett had not signed with the Cleveland Indians, who drafted him with the 111th overall pick in the fourth round. Crockett has one year of eligibility left with the Cavaliers.
