Jeff Banks lasted less than two weeks on Mike London's coaching staff at Virginia.
The school issued a release Thursday afternoon announcing that Banks is leaving the Virginia football program to pursue another coaching position. Banks joined London's staff as the special teams coordinator and running backs coach on January 1.
“I was very much looking forward to having Jeff as a member of our staff,” London said in the release. “We thought very highly of him. Knowing the position being presented to Jeff, I understand his desire to pursue that opportunity."
Online reports have linked Banks to a spot on the Texas A&M coaching staff.
Banks was among the four staff additions announced by Virginia last week. He had spent the last nine seasons as special teams coordinator and running backs coach at UTEP.
“This was a very difficult decision for my family and me to make because we instantly fell in love with Charlottesville and the people here," Banks said in Virginia's release. "I’m very fortunate to have been presented with both of these opportunities in such a short period of time. Ultimately, the opportunity to coach in the SEC with a friend was too hard to pass up.””
