UVa Women Bounce Back, Shut Out Terps


No. 5 Virginia women's tennis bounced back from Saturday's loss to No. 12 North Carolina by posting a 7-0 win over Maryland in ACC action Sunday at Snyder Tennis Center. Virginia improved to 9-3 overall and 4-1 in the ACC.

Virginia won the doubles point and received singles wins from Julia Elbaba, Danielle Collins, Stephanie Nauta, Rachel Pierson, Li Xi and Caryssa Peretz.

The Cavaliers started fast by winning the doubles point. Nauta and Epstein won 8-3 at No. 2 and Elbaba and Pierson dominated 8-2 at No. 1.

Virginia posted six straight singles wins to complete the shutout. Pierson won 6-3, 6-4 at No. 4 and Xi 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5. Collins was victorious 6-3, 6-3 at No. 2 and Nauta 6-2, 2-6, 10-3 at No. 3. Peretz also won 4-6, 6-2, 12-10 at No. 6 and Elbaba won 6-2, 6-4 at No. 1.

The Cavaliers return to action at Georgia on Wednesday, March 12.
