Joanne Boyle has landed the biggest recruit -- literally and figuratively -- in her tenure as women's basketball coach at Virginia.
Sydney Umeri, a 6-1 forward from the Lovett School in Georgia, tweeted on Tuesday that she had given a verbal commitment to Boyle and the Cavaliers. Umeri is rated as the No. 20 overall prospect in the country -- and the seventh-best power foward -- on ESPN's rankings for the class of 2013.
Umeri is the highest-rated player and first forward to commit to Virginia since Boyle took over for Debbie Ryan following the 2010-11 season. Umeri joins guards Breyana Mason and Tiffany Suarez as class of 2013 commits for the Cavaliers.
