The Virginia baseball team will begin working toward another trip to Omaha later this week.
The Cavaliers open fall ball with an open practice at Davenport Field at 2:30 p.m. Friday, UVa announced Monday. The team will conclude its fall session with a ring ceremony on October 18 honoring last season's national runner-up team.
That ring ceremony will be held prior to the final game of the annual Orange and Blue World Series. The seven-game series begins on September 30.
UVa returns 14 letter-winners from last year's College World Series team, but must replace eight players taken in last year's MLB Draft. That list includes closer Nick Howard, taken by Cincinnati in Round 1; and sluggers Derek Fisher (Houston) and Mike Papi (Cleveland), who were taken with back-to-back picks during the first compensation round.
The Wahoos' 2014 fall schedule also includes exhibition games at Davenport against the Ontario Blue Jays on September 23, and Towson on September 28.
