After missing most of his senior season due to a knee injury, Virginia midfielder Chris LaPierre has been granted a fifth year of eligibility.
The team announced Monday that LaPierre's medical hardship waiver has been approved, allowing him to return to the field with UVa for the 2014 season.
LaPierre played in three games in the 2013 season before being shut down on March 20 with a knee injury. Before the season, he was named the solo captain of the men's lacrosse team, the first Cavalier to receive that honor since 1981.
In 2012, LaPierre was an all-ACC selection and a second-team All-American, and led the team with 63 ground balls.
