For the first 73 minutes of Thursday night's ACC soccer game at No. 10 Maryland, it looked like the No. 3 Virginia women's unbeaten streak would continue.
But the Terrapins, led by senior midfielder Olivia Wagner, stormed back for three goals in the game's final 17 minutes to beat the Cavaliers 3-1. The loss ends Virginia's unbeaten streak at 10 matches.
Virginia took a 1-0 lead into halftime after sophomore Kaili Torres scored her first goal of the season in the 40th minute. The lead stood until Wagner's free kick in the 73rd minute was deflected into the Virginia net for the game-tying goal. Wagner scored again nine minutes later to put the Terrapins in front, and senior midfielder Danielle Hubka added an insurance goal in the 86th minute.
The win gives Maryland (8-2-2, 4-0-1 ACC) an ACC-leading 13 points. Virginia drops to 9-2-1, 2-1-1 in the conference.
