Despite struggling on offense, the Virginia men's basketball team took down Norfolk State 67-56 at John Paul Jones Arena, in the first round of the NIT on Tuesday.
Justin Anderson and Akil Mitchell led the Cavaliers with 15 points each, and Joe Harris added 12 on 4-for-7 shooting. Virginia won despite 17 turnovers and 22-of-37 shooting from the free throw line.
Rob Johnson had 19 for the Spartans, who got within three in the second half, before the Cavaliers were able to pull away.
With the win, UVa extends their home winning streak to 18 games. They advance to play St. John's in the second round of the NIT.
