Sarah Vrhovac continued a family tradition Thursday when she signed on to play field hockey at Longwood University.
Vrohovac's older sister Jordan plays on the field hockey team at Radford and her older brother Zach ran track at Virginia.
"It's an honor just being able to continue a legacy in my family and go to the next level and play," Vrhovac said. "It's just an honor. I'm also ready to kick it into high gear and get ready to get in shape to be prepared to play Division I."
Vrhovac was surrounded by friends and family as she signed her paperwork during a ceremony at Albemarle High School. She was a first-team Jefferson District and Conference 16 pick for the Patriots last season.
"It feels great," she explained. "It's kind of crazy knowing it's all coming to an end and knowing that I get to start my whole career over again."
Vrhovac said she also considered Liberty and joining her sister at Radford, but wanted to strike out on her own and follow her own path, which led her to Longwood.
"The whole atmosphere when I got there was so welcoming and the players were so nice. From the bottom of my heart I kind of knew it was right."
