It took six straight wins to start the season, but the Western Albemarle football team has cracked the Top 10 of latest Associated Press Group AA statewide poll.
The 6-0 Warriors, who snapped Powhatan's 61-game winning streak against district opponents with a 30-10 win in Crozet last Friday, are ranked ninth in the newest AP poll, released Monday. Western hosts Charlottesville in a match-up of 2-0 Jefferson District teams this Friday.
Western joins Buckingham County as local teams ranked in the AP's weekly polls. The Knights are No. 5 in the Group A poll for a second straight week after shutting out Randolph-Henry 48-0 last week. Buckingham travels to 5-1 Central-Lunenburg on Friday.
