Warriors Look for Hot Start to Season

Western Albemarle hasn't tasted defeat in a season opener since 2008, a trend the Warriors hope to continue Friday when they hit the road to Spotswood in our first Friday Night Endzone Game of the Week.

The Warriors also traveled over the mountain to the Blazers' home last season and escaped with a 42-21 victory.

That win was part of a 9-0 start for Western, and the Warriors know the value of starting with a win.

"Well you know it's one of those things you'd like to be 1-0 and not 0-1 but certainly we understand we're going to play 10 games and it's a long season and our goal is to be playing our best football at the end of the year," head coach Ed Redmond explained at practice Wednesday.

'It's really important to get that first game, that first victory and set the tone for the rest of the season,' senior Justin Haws said. "To be able to come out and show teams what we can do."

"I think it's very important because it shows how we've been doing in the offseason, how practice has been going and shows how our work can show going into games too," fellow senior Donte Henry added.
